Since this is my first blog I would like for you to know where I'm coming from (the bottom) and where I'm going (the top). I've been doing this long enough now to feel like I'm almost "there". But then I sit back and think about how over the years how much "there" has changed for me.
In the mid to late 90's, "there" was, getting a big record deal (big budget, expensive videos, the money, the hoes, the jewels, the cars, the mansion, etc.). Then came the new millennium when it was more about building your own label, getting major distribution and being a "BOSS". I say "BOSS" because that status also came with signing away certain percentages of your business for a big check and CEO (Chief Executive Officer) status. Which basically makes you the head manager of what you started.
But now we're approaching the end of the first 10 years of the 2000's and once again "there" is changing. "There" is feeling like the beginning of hip hop all over again. Being independent is once again a serious option. And the major corporations are totally clueless to whats going on.
So "there" is more like, recording your own music, pressing up your own cds , setting up your own ringtones/downloads, booking your own shows, etc. Which gets me back to what "there" is to me. As I type this blog, "there" is making the artist REC LAW, STASHOUSE RECORDS INC., and any artist under that umbrella relevant to you. And if you're reading this, its a sign that...
